Avery’s Bookshelf: Magic Treehouse (1)

This series is one of the chapter books I remember most vividly from my childhood, and I’ve been so excited to introduce it to Avery for that reason! We’re actually midway through another book, but today she requested to start the Magic Treehouse series, and I couldn’t say no.

We started and finished book 1, Dinosaurs before Dark, in around 45 minutes. The length of these books are perfect for an extended reading session before bed or in the afternoon. Avery followed along with the plot really well. Her only question was, “How did they get in the past?” She quickly concluded it was because the treehouse was magic. I asked a couple of times throughout the ten chapters if she wanted to keep going, and she said yes.

She tracked with the action sequences and got excited, jumping around the bed when the T-rex made his appearance. At first, she’d asked, “Are you sure these books are safe for me?” because of the covers showing semi-scary scenes. I assured her they were written for kids, and I think she’s the perfect age to enjoy them!

We’ll definitely be doing as many of the Magic Treehouse books as we can in the future! What a great way to start off a new series!
